Love for Chad Patrick?

Can someone explain to me why that everywhere I look Chad Patrick is not getting any love anywhere? I mean the guy is delivering every time he takes the mound and he leads AAA in multiple categories. How is this man not on a list or radar? Time to give him his due!

Welcome to the board.

Think there are a couple things holding Patrick back from getting the MLB call right now.

First is that he isn’t on the 40 Man roster yet. Believe the Brewers will have to add him in the offseason or risk losing him in the Rule 5 Draft.

Second is that while his 2.68 ERA is no doubt impressive in the crazy offensive environs of the International League, his 4.14 FIP and 4.59 xFIP suggest he’s probably been somewhat lucky with regards to run prevention.

Definitely an intriguing rotation option & one the Brewers obviously targeted in trade, but we likely won’t find out what they really think of him until the Rule 5 protection deadline.

I sure he going on the 40 man

Statcast AAA data seems to suggest Patrick is not quite special enough (xwOBA):

– CF-Rod: .274
– Keuchel: .285
– Boushley: .286
– Patrick: .292
– McKendry: .296
– Cueto: .304
– Pannone: .305
– Lauer: .314
– Alexander: .315
– Clarke: .315
– Plesac: .331
– Espino: .332
– Stallings: .336
– Ashby: .349
– Woessner: .357
– Lamet: .362
– Teheran: .374

That said, I still wish we’d given Patrick the call ahead of CF Rodriguez earlier in the year. Both are high floor, low ceiling guys. I didn’t see the point of burning CF-Rod’s first minor league option year at age 22.

I could be wrong, but for some reason, I thought someone here said it was simply due to Carlos’ turn in the rotation matched up with the need in MLB.

Nah, CF-Rod’s first MLB start was leaked on June 7th and the actual start was on June 11th, with Patrick throwing in between on June 9th.

I think they figured CF-Rod would benefit from MLB exposure, similar to Chourio in April/May.

Some speculated that CF-Rod was thought to likely perform strongly in MLB without the constraints of the automatic-ball strike system used in AAA. Others figured CF-Rod was riding a hot streak (May Pitcher of the Month).

I just figured he’d struggle (as would Patrick, probably) and it wouldn’t be worth the risk of burning his first minor league option year.

Is this a Patrick burner account first post? Welcome to the board!

The deeper advanced peripherals spoken to above tell the tale but, like Daniel here I personally felt he should have been that first non-40 man call up and rostered man. It made a lot more sense than forcing Carlos to the Big Show with so little proven success at Triple-A. I was one who thought he’d benefit from the **** away from ABS (as a coping mechanism for my doubts, perhaps!) but clearly he just wasn’t ready.

No lol not a burner. Thanks for the welcoming to the board. I have just recently gotten into paying attention to minor league stuff and have been following and just didn’t know why Patrick wasn’t really mentioned anywhere.

Well then stick around here for sure! Joseph Zarr is one of our daily MiLB report writers and is glued to the Brewers minor league system on a level you won’t find anywhere outside of Jim Goulart (one of our other MiLB daily report people!)

You are too kind, Brock. But, honestly, you’re right…

(don’t forget about Daniel too – incredible acumen and insights for roster moves and construction – always offers extremely insightful tidbits about what he’s reading in the tea leaves)

@Jmac, you’ve arrived at the perfect time. The system is as deep as it has ever been – down to the very lowest of levels where we can easily make the argument (at least in the field player department) the greatest depth is aged 17-to-20. We’ve also seen an incredible blossoming in our community of ‘Fanatics’ who passionately follow the goings ons in this crucial component of a successful Brewers ball club. Personally, it’s what I find to be so alluring about baseball and the small market racket – you absolutely MUST develop your lower levels chess board or you will be mired in sub-par mediocrity ad finitum. Jim, Daniel, and I write the daily reports – believe me, a labor of Love. But, we do Love it. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t point out there are so many valuable posters here on a daily and weekly basis who contribute in myriad ways with their insights and passion. @Spencer Michaeliswrites fantastic monthly warp-up reports and is active in the Twittersphere and has to put up with @Jack Stern in a Brewer Fanatic podcast. @wiguy94likely watches almost as much Brewers Minor League baseball as I do (I don’t even want to share with you my hours count in 2024 – frankly, it’s embarrassing but I wear my rosy cheeks with pride) and has a keen understanding of advanced statistical trends and categories (not to mention, he may be Brewers regional scout Ginger Poulson’s nephew. Need to confirm😁). @CheeseheadInQCis a guru with the numbers and prognosticating deep dives and has an absolutely awesome periodical blog. @biedergbis back in full form and active in the game threads. @Jim French Stepstoolalways gifts us with late night appearances and comments. @sveumrulesreally adds those fill-in game synopsis when we really need them not to mention always one for keenly insightful statistical observations across the Brewers universe. I could go on and on. I apologize to any of you I left out I am simply deep in schematizing tonight’s report before games start in 15 minutes. The point being is you’ve arrived at literally the perfect time to get interested in the Brewers Minor League system. The future is 2,000+ Lumens bright for our little MLB ball club back in the city many of us call home (or used to call home – like myself, I was born and raised just outside Milwaukee only 15 minutes from County Stadium).
