IPL 2025, GT vs PBKS highlights: Skipper Shreyas Iyer led from the front with his blazing 42-ball 97* knock to lead Punjab Kings to a 11-run win over  Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Punjab started their campaign with a win after they scored 243/5 in 20 overs being put in to bat. Opener Priyansh Arya scored 23-ball 47 on his IPL debut while finisher Shashank Singh played a solid 16-ball 44 cameo to help Punjab post a big total. Chasing 245, Gujarat were off to a good start before a combined bowling effort curbed them to 232/5. IPL 2025, GT vs PBKS LIVE Cricket Score, Full Scorecard: Watch Here Shreyas Iyer, who had won the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Kolkata Knight Riders last year before getting released by the franchise, will look to achieve that feat with perennial underachievers Punjab Kings. Gill, meanwhile, will look to turn Gujarat’s fortunes around after a dismal campaign last year where they finished 8th after back to back appearances in the final in 2022 and 2023 under former skipper Hardik Pandya. Their batting will heavily rely on Gill and Jos Buttler on top while they also boast of likes Sherfane Rutherford, Sai Sudharsan, Shahrukh Khan as well as all-rounders Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar, and Mahipal Lomror who can bolster their batting. They also have a devastating pace attack with Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna, Gerald Coetzee, and Ishant Sharma while Rashid and Sai Kishore will lead the spin attack. IPL 2025, GT vs PBKS LIVE Cricket Score Streaming Online: Watch Here Punjab also have a dangerous batting lineup with Iyer, Josh Inglis, Prabhsimran Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell as well as allrounders Azmatullah Omarzai, Marco Jansen, Shahank Singh, and Musheer Khan. IPL 2025, GT vs PBKS Playing 11: Impact Player, Full Squad and Players List Here The thought was simple and very clear – make them hit to the off-side, it is not easy to hit there, if they hit a good shot, clap, say well played and go again. (on Vyshak) Really happy for him, he is putting in the hard yards in the practice, was executing the yorkers really well in practice and the results showed in the game as well. If you want to miss, miss on the wider side and not on the stumps. Even if it slips, even if it’s a full-toss, it won’t be easy for them to hit as it’s very far from their reach. Credit goes to all the batters who went in and smashed from ball number one. That’s how it goes in this format nowadays. There is no par score, 240, 250, 260 – score as much as possible and then and try and defend it. I think we got our chances when we were bowling and batting. Too many runs were given away. We let ourselves down on the field as well. Those three overs in the middle when we scored 18 runs, that, and the first three overs we didn’t score too many runs. That costed us the game. Many positives as well. Good start to the tournament I guess. Never easy for someone to come in as an Impact player and bowl those yorkers when you have been on the bench for 15 overs. Credit to them for bowling yorkers on the trot. I mean it is always a good batting wicket here to bat on. You might score 240-250, but you have to restrict the opposition as well. Iyer would fancy a rather comfortable win as he has Arshdeep, who will bowl the last over. RUN OUT! Rahul Tewatia has to go. Very unlucky as Arshdeep handed the ball after landing a yorker which was hit straight by Rutherford and hit the stumps. Shahrukh Khan, the new batter will stay at the non-striker’s end. Arshdeep to Rutherford, SIX! Over cover and he keeps GT in hunt. 21 off 4 now. Arshdeep bowls a good wide yorker and all Rutherford could manage was a double. 19 off 3 and it looks as good as done for Gujarat. OUT! Arshdeep keeps it low, in the middle and bowled Rutherford. Punjab wins! But still two more balls left, Arshad Khan is the new batter. He takes a single and Shahrukh Khan will get to play one last ball. SIX! He finishes in style with a six over extra cover albeit in a losing cause. GT 232/5 in 20 overs; lost by 11 runs Vijaykumar Vyshak to bowl the penultimate over. Sherfane Rutherford has the strike. Want to guess the ball Vyshal bowled? No prize for guessing, it’s a WIDE! His fifth wide in two overs. FOUR! Another ball outside off stump and this time Rutherford sliced it past short third. FOUR! Another similar shot, this time beats the backward point field for a boundary. SIX! Rahul Tewatia keeps GT in hunt with a maximum off the last delivery. 18 off the over. 27 needed off last 6.  GT 217/3 in 19 overs Marco Jansen with his last over. Buttler gets to his fifty after hitting Janse for two FOURS. Last ball of the over, OUT! Played down. Jansen has the last laugh as Buttler walks back after scoring 54 of 33. Rahul Tewatia is the new man in.  GT 199/3 in 18 overs Vijaykumar Vyshak continues. Good thinking, not so good execution from him as he starts with two back-to-back wides.  Marco Jansen back into the attack in place of Stoinis. He will bowl his third over. Wide yorker, Buttler dabs it for a couple. Jansen bowled a brilliant over to give five singles off the last five deliveries.  GT 182/2 in 16 overs  Punjab brings their trump card in Vijaykumar Vyshak as the impact player. He replaces Priyansh Arya. Can Vijaykumar make an impact here. Vijaykumar bowls a flurry of low full tosses, wide outside off denying both Rutherford and Buttler any room to give just five off this over.  GT 174/2 in 15 overs  Marcus Stoinis to bowl his second over. Stoinis to Rutherford, SIX! Short and wide, pulled away nicely with ease. FOUR! Short and wide, slower one, Rutherford smartly plays it behind backward point to get second boundary. SIX! Make it his third boundary of the over. This time he swings hard and gets a thick edge which sails over the fence. 17 off this over. Required rate under 13 runs per over now.   GT 170/2 in 14 overs Shreyas Iyer goes back to Arshdeep Singh. He wants a breakthrough here, can Arsh deliver? Arshdeep to Buttler, SIX! The tables have turned and how? A slower ball from Arshdeep and Buttler deposits this in the stand to start the over with a wicket. OUT! Yes, Arshdeep delivers for his captain. Takes the dangerous and set batter Sudharsan out. Bowls short angling in for the left-hander who holes out to Shashank Singh at deep mid-wicket. Sherfane Rutherford, the impact player comes in at number four. 14 off this over and a wicket.  GT 152/2 in 13 overs Yuzi Chahal with his third over. Sudharsan welcomes him with a four. He targets Chahal in this over and hit him for a SIX and a FOUR as GT gets another 17-run over GT 138/1 in 12 overs Glenn Maxwell with his second over. Maxwell to Sudharsan, SIX! Maxwell with a quicker one down the leg but Sudharsan pulled it away nicely over deep square leg. SIX! This time Buttler makes it count. He stays back and goes for an aerial clean hit over long-off. 17 off this over.  GT 121/1 in 11 overs.  Yuzi Chahal with his second over. SIX! This is a confidence booster from Sudarshan who shimmies down the track and hits the wide ball over extra cover. Five singles in the next five deliveries fetch GT 11 runs from Chahal’s over as Sudharsan gets to his fifty. They also go past 100 in 10 overs.  GT 104/1 in 10 overs Marco Jansen is back into the attack after a one-over break. Buttler welcomes him with back-to-back FOURS. First over long-on then at square leg to take 11 off the over.  GT 93/1 in 9 overs Yuzvendra Chahal comes into the attack for Maxwell. Buttler takes a single in the first ball. FOUR! Sudharsan changing gears at the right time. Short ball, and pulled away at deep mid-wicket. Still just seven off this over.  GT 82/1 in 8 overs  Marcus Stoinis comes into the attack in place of Marco Jansen. FOUR! Lucky boundary for Sudharsan, who drives the length ball which takes an edge and runs towards third man. SIX! Sudharsan is testing his luck at the moment as getting rewards till now. Short ball, outside off and slashed hard by the left-hander and it sailed over Omarzai, who was in position to take it at third man. 14 off the over.  75/1 in 7 overs Glenn Maxwell in the attack. He replaces Omarzai. Sudharsan gets a couple off the first ball. Maxwell bowls a wide before Sudharsan takes a single, given off the pads. FOUR! Gill sweeps it past the fielder at backward square leg. OUT! Gill looked to get the most out of the field, charged down but holed out to Priyansh Arya. Jos Buttler joins Sudharsan. 10 off this over. Gujarat gets to 61 after the end of the powerplay.  GT 61/1 in 6 overs GT 61/1 in 6 overs Marco Jansen in place for Arshdeep Singh. SIX! Sudharshan scoops it over fine-leg for a maximum. GT, although took sometime, but now look set for this chase. SIX! Gill ends the over with a second six. 15 off this over.   GT 51/0 in 5 overs Azmatullah Omarzai with his second over. Sudharsan gets a single off the very first ball. SIX! Gill is on the move, finally. Full and in the slot for Gill, who picked up the length on time and flicks it over deep mid-wicket for a six.SIX! Gill was positioned well for this down-leg delivery and pulled away nicely for a second maximum of the over. FOUR! This was the best shot by Gill this night. Full, on off this time, Gill charges down and clears the in-field over extra cover. 19 runs from this over.  GT 36/0 in 4 overs Arshdeep bowled another brilliant over. Gave just two from this as Sudharsan played another set of four dot deliveries in this over. This might prove costly to GT later as the run rate is below 6 at the moment.  GT 17/0 in 3 overs Azmatullah Omarzai from the other end. Sudharsan’s struggles continues as he misses the flick and the ball hits the pads. He takes a single off the next delivery. Gill starts with a dot before rushing for a single and was miles away from the non-striker’s end and a direct hit would have sent him back right away. SIX! Finally, something to cheer for Sudharsan who gets good connection this time. Omarzai looked to nail the yorker, missed length and Sudharsan cleared the long-on fence.  GT 15/0 in 2 overs Arshdeep Singh starts. Sudharsan has the strike. FOUR! Length ball, skids in for the left-hander down the leg, and Sudharsan flicks it at fine-leg for a boundary to start the chase on a positive note. Arshdeep gets movement off the air and troubles Sudharsan with his skiddy deliveries as the batter could only manage a single off the last delivery before playing four dots. Just five off the first over. GT 5/0 in 1 over Arshdeep Singh gets the white new ball. Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill to open Gujarat in pursuit of 244.  Okay, so it is Siraj who has to bowl the last over. Can he finish like Rabada who gave only 10 off his last over? Shashank has the strike, Iyer on 97. FOUR! Good start for Shashank who plays a ramp shot over the short third man to start the over with a boundary. FOUR A double off the next delivery before Shashank drives the third ball over covers for another boundary. FOUR, FOUR, FOUR! The scoreline reads 243/5 for Punjab Kings after Shashank hit Siraj for three more boundaries to end the over with five fours. 23 coming from the last over and it has been batting of the highest order from Shashank and Iyer who added 81 of 28 for the sixth wicket. Pure carnage from these two. Gujarat will have a big task at hand. PBKS 243/5 in 20 overs Gill goes to Kagiso Rabada who will bowl the penultimate over. FOUR! Who can stop Iyer today? Looks like, no one! Half-volley down the leg and Iyer flicks it for a boundary. Rabada bowls two back-to-back wides before Iyer takes a single which takes him to 96. Nice comeback from Rabada, only three singles off the last four balls. Just 10 off the 19th over of the innings.  PBKS 220/5 in 19 overs Rashid Khan with his last over. It was Iyer in the last over, this time it is Shashank who shows his hitting ability. He hits Rashid for TWO SIXES and a FOUR to take 20 off his last over. Punjab also crosses the 200-run mark.  PBKS 210/5 in 18 overs  Prasidh Krishna replaces Siraj. Punjab are now only dealing with maximums at the moment. Again uses his strength to hit it in the arc and clear the long-on fence. OUT! Kishore strikes, and strikes big time for GT. Stoinis looks to cheekily beat the backward point fielder with a reverse sweep but Arshad Khan won’t miss anything today. Picks his third catch of the night. Shashank Singh is the new batter who joins Iyer. Just four singles off the last four balls. Sai Kishore finishes his spell with an impressive figures of 4-0-30-0.  PBKS 166/5 in 16 overs Pacer back into the attack. Siraj comes in place of Sai Kishore. SIX! Iyer stays back, goes on backfoot and hit Kishore over long-off to start the over on a positive note. SIX! Another biggie, this time over long-on from Iyer who is looking in supreme form. FOUR! Stoinis joins the party, reads the short ball early, plays a reverse hit to beat the man at short third. 17 runs from this over.  PBKS 125/4 in 13 overs Rashid Khan comes from the other end. This is good captaincy from Gill, bringing their tricky customers to keep the batters under control. Rashid leaks just three singles from his over and GT are now truly back in the game.  PBKS 108/4 in 12 overs Sai Kishore continues. Iyer gets a single off the first ball to give Omarzai the strike. OUT! Kishore induces a wicket after bowling a very tidy last over. This time lures Omarzai to go over mid-wicket but the Afghan miscues it and Arshad Khan picks his second catch of the night, this time at deep mid-wicket. Glenn Maxwell, the new batter, is in at number five. OUT! Wow, two in two for Kishore! Maxwell went for an unnecessary reverse hit and the ball kept straight to trap him in front. Marcus Stoinis joins Iyer at middle. He defends the last two balls. Just a single and two wickets from this over. What a quick turnaround from Kishore.  PBKS 105/4 in 11 overs Prasidh Krishna continues from the other end. FOUR! PBKS 94/2 in 8 overs  Second change, Rashid Khan comes in for Arshad Khan. FOUR! Lucky, as Priyansh gets another edge and runs away for a four, this time at short fine. Can he get to his fifty? Looks primed for it. Rashid to Priyansh, OUT! Talk about the commentator’s curse? Here we go. The debutant has to go back after holing out to Sai Sudharsan. Rashid gets to his 150 IPL wickets, and becomes the third-fastest to reach the landmark. Azmatullah Omarzai is the new man in at number four. SIX! Wow, some hit this from the Afghan batter who looks set from the dressing room. He goes down the ground for a massive six. 12 and a wicket from Rashid’s first over.  PBKS 85/2 in 7 overs Rabada with his third over. FOUR! Priyansh is looking unstoppable today, drives it past cover for another boundary. Iyer ends the over with a second FOUR of the over. 10 from this over.  PBKS 73/1 in 6 overs First change in the bowling attack from Gill, brings in Arshad Khan in place of Siraj. Most wickets in GT vs PBKS matches (active players) Most runs in GT vs PBKS matches (active players) Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler have plundered a truckload of runs over the last three seasons and it will be an interesting up top for the Titans in Ahmedabad. Gill and Buttler have not been the greatest of starters in the Powerplay, striking at 131.08 and 132.89, but they sure do know how to take the game deep and switch gears with aplomb. The most exciting games are the ones which hang in the balance, requiring batters to apply themselves when wickets fall and play really well to win matches for their teams, or bowlers to step up in the same manner. It shouldn’t be about just survival for either. (Screengrab) South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, now with Gujarat Titans for IPL 2025, voiced his opinions on the increasing trend of high-scoring matches in the IPL, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a balance between bat and ball. He believes that excessive focus on batting could diminish the essence of cricket. Rabada believes that while the game should evolve, it shouldn’t solely favor batsmen, stressing the necessity of maintaining a balance between batting and bowling to preserve the essence of cricket. He also acknowledged that high-scoring games are entertaining, but not if every match follows the same pattern. He added that cricket should not be reduced to just “batting,” highlighting the importance of bowling and fielding.
