Army detains general over $16m in wife’s account


Following the discovery of $16 million in a bank account belonging to his wife by the United States security, the Army has detained Brigadier-General Charles Nengite.

Upon the directives from the presidency, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Butatai, ordered the SIB to take over the matter. According to the report, sources, however, said the wife was not arrested as the money was believed to have been proceeding from dirty deals while the officer was on secondment to the Niger Delta Development Company (NDDC) between 2016 and 2019.
